Application: Identifying Gaps
You may remember from previous courses that a gap analysis is a management process wherein the characteristics/requirements of a project are identified and then cross-listed with the project’s objectives and/or resources. This type of analysis is helpful in identifying gaps that need attention for the project to be successful.
For this Assignment, refer to the organization you selected in Week 1, and identify the organization’s strategies and business goals. In addition, research the organization’s activities and consider how activities align with the long-term strategies and business goals.
Since many organizations do not make their strategic plans widely available, you may need to deduce the organization’s strategies and business goals by reviewing 10-k forms, websites, and/or transcripts of quarterly earnings calls with the media, or through your own organizational awareness and/or communications as an employee of this organization.
To complete this Assignment, write a 2- to 3-page paper addressing the following:
•Conduct a gap analysis and contrast the key organizational strategies and business goals obtained from or identified in the strategic plan or 10-k Form against key Human Resources Department/Division strategies and business goals currently in place
•Identify gaps that need to be addressed by the Human Resources Department/Division in its creation of an Annual Human Resources Operating Plan, which will drive the practices (policies, hiring, trainings, projects, and changes in overall operations) for the coming year
•Present the gap analysis as a matrix explaining key findings as part of your paper, along with discussion
This Assignment will become an Appendix in your final Human Resources Operating Plan.
