Grand nursing theories
This week we start looking at the differences between the levels of theory. Our focus is on Grand Nursing Theory. By definition, a grand theory must consider all of the paradigms of a profession. Grand theory uses a high level of abstraction so that they can give a board view of the nursing profession. According to McEewn and Wills (2011) “grand nursing theories guide research and assist scholars to integrate the results of numerous diverse investigations so that the findings may be applied to education, practice, further research and administration. Grand theories provide a background of philosophical reasoning.”
Grand theorists are known to be nonspecific and very open in their thoughts and sometimes hard to test’s to middle range theory which our more concrete and easily practice. Find a grand theorist you identify with and keep it to use going forward in this course and your other courses when you need a theorist.
For this discussion thread you are asked select a grand nursing theory and briefly summarize the key points of the theory. Give your opinion on how useful this theory is nursing practice.
What relationship(s) do you find between grand nursing theories and application to clinical practice? Provide one example that uses a specific grand range theory to support your views
What relationship(s) do you find between middle-range nursing theories and evidence-based practice? Provide one example that uses a specific middle-range theory to support your views
As we start off in this thread the relationship between the outcome and the question is pretty straightforward. However the question does not assume that there is a connection. That is for you to discuss and support with citations and references. I look forward to reading your posts and hearing your thoughts
