Part 1 – Word count: approx. 2000 words. Marks – 50%
The object of this assignment is to give an opportunity to practice some of basic statistical procedures. You need use the data set and the codebook (all uploaded).
Data.xls is an excel file containing the dataset
Codebook for Assign2 Data described the basic dataset.
Your first job is to make sure you can work with this dataset in SPSS. You will be able to paste the contents of the Data.xls file into your version of SPSS. Once you have SPSS working you need to generate the following outputs and brief descriptive and analytical commentary on each area.
Sub-Part 1 (5 marks).
Provide a detailed description of the dataset. For each of the variables listed in the dataset, describe their variable type (categorical, discrete or continuous) and level of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio). You should also write a couple of paragraphs describing in plain English what you know about the dataset having produced descriptive statistics
Sub-Part 2 (15 marks).
Summarise one categorical and one numerical variable. The summary of the categorical variables should contain the following: frequency table, pie-chart or bar chart. The summary of the numerical variables should include the following: histogram, measure of centrality (mean/median etc.) and measures of dispersion (range, standard deviation, percentiles etc.). Provide appropriate labels (x and y axes) and headings for your charts. Use SPSS and provide SPSS data and output files to support your own description of the data. Provide a short paragraph describing in plain English what the summaries reveal about the data.
Sub- Part 3 (15 marks).
Carry out and report appropriate tests to see if there are significant correlations between variables in this dataset. You must do at least one correlation involving two variables (e.g. answering the question, Is there a relationship between Gender and level of Stress?) and at least one involving three variables (e.g. answering the question, Is there a relationship between the Gender, Productivity and level of Stress?). Use SPSS and provide SPSS data and output (numeric and graphical) files to support your own analysis. Justify your choice of test. Provide a short paragraph describing in plain English what the analyses reveal about the data.
Carry out and report appropriate tests to see if there are significant differences between averages as follows:
a. Is there a significant difference in Resilience scores for males and females?
b. Does the employee’s Gender influence their levels of Job Satisfaction?
c. Is there a difference in Stress depending on one’s Age in years?
Use SPSS and provide SPSS data and output (numeric and graphical) files to support your own analysis. Justify your choice of test. Provide a short paragraph describing in plain English what the analyses reveal about the data.
Sub-Part 4 (15 marks).
Answer the question:
How well does Age in Years and Job Satisfaction predict Stress scores?
Use SPSS and provide SPSS data and output (numeric and graphical) files to support your own analysis. Justify your choice of test. Provide a short paragraph describing in plain English summarising what the test reveals about the data.
PART TWO 50% of overall assignment and 2,500 words approximately
This assignment is to produce a research proposal, including a schedule, that potentially could be used for your MSc research project.
Use the following headings from Unit 12 to help you articulate your proposal:
? Project outline (supported by reference to relevant research).
? Theoretical framework (supported by reference to relevant research). .
? Design and methodology
? Details on participants and sampling method
? Data analysis
? The research schedule or Gantt chart for your project.
– All sources must be referenced as a basic requirement
****** Please not the subject I chose is related to cloud / online storage management.
The subject title:
Cloud storage Evaluation – How it Differs to Traditional IT Storage.
******* Below are some comments I got from the tutor in regards to some work related to this research proposal that Ihave done a while ago. I am sending it to you just for reference and to see what areas are important for this research.
I have now had a chance to read through your research proposal and my initial comments are as follows.
1. As it stands, the research proposal is quite loose and does not really propose a specific research agenda other than in a very general way, i.e that it will be concerned with cloud computing.
2. As a result of 1 above, there is no theoretical framework and no proposed research methodology.
3. The preliminary literature review doesn’t actually contain any references to published research (books or articles).
In my opinion, you need to put some serious thought into what specifically you want to achieve in your research project. It is fine to say that cloud computing is the focus because that is a topic that interests you, but you have a build a much more focused and specific set of objectives for this research exercise.
What aspect of cloud computing are you interested in? Levels of awareness and understanding? Current usage? Plans to deploy? Perceived benefits? Risks? Costs? In what sectors? Personal or business? If business, any sector – enterprise, SME, public sector?
You need to think about that and then come up with a title for your research and a clearly stated research objective(s). Once you have a clearer view of the purpose and scope of the research, the theoretic framework and methodology become easier to define.
So, quite a bit of work for you to do here, I think. Your research proposal wasn’t so much a proposal as a statement of intent to come up with one and you have to tackle that task now.
One final point – there are a few instances of “lifting” chunks of text directly from third party sources. All sources must be referenced as a basic requirement but you need to analyse and paraphrase source material and put it into your own words.
