You will write a 3-4 page paper that analyzes a concept grounded in the intersection of gender, race, and class in a pop culture “text” of your choice. This can be a written text (short story, poetry, graphic novel, comic book, etc.), a movie or television series, a piece of artwork, a song, or something less concrete that you can analyze (language pattern, fashion trend, etc.). You should run your topic by me if you are not sure it fits the criteria for what counts as a “text.” You should craft a strong, sophisticated thesis that examines issues of gender, race, and class in the text through close reading and analysis of the text’s elements. Your essay should be well organized and documented, using direct quotes and references to the text; however, do not rely excessively on quotes and remember that you are only using quotes to support your ideas, which should constitute the main content of the paper.
