The process of DNA fingerprinting
on brief sheet:
1. Where is DNA found and why can it be used to identify a particular person or organism? It might be helpful to briefly describe the structure of DNA
2. Describe and explain the processes involved in producing a DNA fingerprint:
-what sort of samples could be used?
-how is DNA extracted from the sample?
-what are restriction endonuclease enzymes and what are they used for?
-how are the DNA fragments separated?
-why are markers or controls used?
-how can the bands be observer?
you can also look at the use of the polymerase chain reaction(PCR)
3.Explain one or 2 uses of DNA fingerprinting
1. Understanding- you have clearly explained the processes involved in DNA fingerprinting
2.Application of Knowledge- You have explained how and why this process can be used in particular circumstances.
