The relation between Price-Earnings ratios and UK stock Market PerformanceThe relation between Price-Earnings ratios and UK stock Market Performance
Mini plan on dissertation
Research Topic
The relation between Price-Earnings ratios and UK stock Market Performance
Research Question:
To test the strength of Price Earnings Ratios influence on the subsequent stock market performance?
Research aim
The main aim of this research is to determine the effect of the historical price earnings ratio  influence on the subsequent stock market performance in the UK and to test the strength of that effect using current stock market data.
Research objectives
·         To analyse the research on Market Efficiency in uk focusing on P/E hypothesis. (the p/e ratio hypothesis  by collecting data to prove strong/ weak efficiency.

·         Determine the correlation between p/e ratio and volume of shares traded and effect on price.(methodology)

Rationale of the Study
The rational of this research is to determine  whether  investors react to the theory of relatively low P/E ratio shares, normally overtake high P/E ratio shares, which is normally known as the ‘’price earnings ratio hypothesis’’. (the origin of the theory and the process used to discover the theory)Even though the rational of this notion is not obvious, it is still believed.  P/E ratio is known information and should be replicated in price, (backed up with theory )a relationship between P/E ratio and the current return shouldn’t   happen if the market is said to be efficient.
Introduction
The introduction of the topic will start with a brief definition of a ratio, some examples of ratios and then focus on a particular investment ratio. For the purpose of the research price earnings ratio will be looked at. Furthermore different definitions of P/E ratio will be looked at and out them one be adopted for this research. Preliminary Literature Review
general market efficiency (narrowed down)
P/E ratio hypothsis (as long as possible)
Section 1. This section will focus on identifying the subject of the study and critically evaluate the history of the study. The background studies conducted P/E ratios, which is P/E ratio hypotheses. (other relevant uses for p/e ratios
 Section 2. In this section the theoretical frame work of P/E ratio will be looked at. Discussion and analysis of definitions of price earnings ratios of different research conducted will be incorporated.  Critically evaluations the empirical studies on P/E ratios from previous studies in selected countries will examine.
Section 3. Critical evaluation of current literature on price earnings ratios and the stock market performance, current findings and implications for this study.

Research Execution
Secondary research from previous studies will be used as well as primary research. The primary research aspect will select sample from the FTSE. This criterial of collection is because of it widely spread of specified companies, market activities and liquidity. About 30 companies will be selected based on convenience sampling. (the 30 companies should be categorized into 3 inductries)The sample period for this research will be 10 years i.e. 2003 to 2013. Some empirical analysis will done. Test will be conducted by the use of simple regression analysis. Finding correlations between the P/E ratio and volume of share traded and effect on price.

Research outline
Following is the proposed structure of this thesis that will be based on the following chapters so that information:
Chapter 1: This section introduces the topic selected, provides an overview of the research topic, it states the problem statement and defines the main objectives along with the research questions designed for this study;
            Chapter 2: This chapter provides literature for the research topic by including a detailed view of the literature which will be based on the previous studies conducted by different researchers. This section will find theoretical view related to the relation between Price-Earnings ratios and UK stock Market Performance

Chapter 3: This is the methodology section which defines the sources of data collection and the methods applicable on the sample population in order to test whether the hypothesis of the study is accepted or rejected. This chapter provides the research design of this study.
Chapter 4: This chapter will provide a detailed analysis of the data collected and interpretation of the statistical information in order to help researchers in drawing conclusion related to the research topic of the study;
            Chapter 5: This chapter will be divided into two parts i.e. conclusion and recommendation. It will provide conclusion and recommendations related to the study so that it can be useful for researches that are to be conducted in the future
